Senate Democrats have delayed confirmation hearings for the nominees of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Treasury Department by refusing to attend the committee meetings.
Trump’s picks for those two departments, Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga), for Health and Human Services, and Steven Mnuchin, his choice for the treasury Department have not cleared the hurdles or convinced Democrats they are viable nominees.
Senate Republicans were outraged by the move. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), said he didn’t understand why the Democrats will not support the committee. “I’m very disappointed in this kind of crap,” Hatch said, “some of this is because they just don’t like the president.”
Democrats argued that Price and Mnuchin had misled them and the American people. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), said “We have great concern that Chairman Hatch is asking us to vote today on two nominees who out and out lied to our committee.”
Hatch said he hopes to hold a vote on the nominees later today, but Democrats say the two nominees still have matters to clear up before they move forward.
